Q：What is the location of Minxin School?
A：Minxin School is located in Guangzhou Nansha (within the Guangdong-Hong Kong In-depth Cooperation Park), 1.7 km away from the campus of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou); less than 1 km away from the high-speed train Qingsheng Station (35 minutes traveling time to Hong Kong). Our school is located in a well-planned Hong Kong community covering an area of one square kilometre.
Q：What is the scale of Minxin School?
A：Minxin has a total land area of 96 acres, with a construction area of 76,000 square metres. There are 36 classes in Primary School, Junior High School and Senior High School, with the capacity for 1620 students in total.
Q：What facilities are available at Minxin School? Will all of the facilities be completed before school commences?
A：The school facilities including: 800-seat Lecture Hall, 300-seat Lecture Hall, Gymnasium, 300-metre Track and Field Stadium, Student Canteen, Student Dormitory, Indoor-heated Swimming Pool, Outdoor Classrooms, Chinese Medicine Plantation and Fruitland, Library, Innovation and Technology Centre, IT Rooms, Multi-functional Rooms, Laboratories, Music Room, Visual Art Room, Home-Economics Room, Dance Room, Conference Room, Exhibition Room, Meditation Courtyard, Art Stage, Salon Plaza, Sky Farm, etc. The construction of the school campus is in progress according to schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of May this year. We expect that all the facilities will be ready when school starts in September. The school library will be opened to students in this academic year.
Q：Is it compulsory for students to have boarding? Can all students move in by September? Will any parents be able to stay in the dormitory with students?
A：Minxin School provides 1,200 dormitories. All students from G.7 to G.12 have compulsory boarding. There is an option for G.5 to G.6 students. G.1 to G.4 students are only for day school, with no boarding option. The construction of the school dormitories (both boys and girls dormitories) is in progress and expected to be completed by the end of May this year. They will be ready by this September for all students. Parents are not allowed to stay in the dormitory with students. While the school is concerned about the relationship between parent and student, we encourage students to communicate with parents during “phone time”.
Q：Who will look after boarding students?
A：There are wardens who will look after boarders, and life mentors who are responsible for supervising and taking care of daily life routines. It is a school imperative that students are fully taken care of emotionally, psychologically and socially. The school health care team will take care of the students’ health.
Q：What is the educational system of Primary and Secondary Divisions? How many classes are there in the whole school?
A：Minxin School is a non-profit organisation to provide 12 years through-train education with a Hong Kong based curriculum. It helps students to overcome the difficulties of adjustment for the transition from Primary to Secondary Division. There are a total of 12 classes from G1 - G6 in Primary Division and 24 classes from G7- G12 in the Secondary Division. In order to take good care of each student, there will be split-class lessons. The teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:10.
Q：What is the schooling and vacation schedule?
A：The school calendar will be distributed to students before the start of the new academic year in September. Holidays will tend to follow Mainland and Hong Kong schools.

A：The school will distribute the timetable before the school starts in September.
Curriculum, medium of instruction and the qualification of teachers
Q：What is the curriculum of the Secondary and Primary Division?
A：Minxin School offers the Secondary and Primary curriculum recognised by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. G7 and G8 will adopt the Hong Kong and school-based curriculum, G9 and G10 integrate the IGCSE curriculum into the HKDSE curriculum, G11 and G12 offer GCE (AS & AL) courses and HKDSE courses. The school will consider offering an IBDP curriculum in the future. The school focuses on students' in-depth learning, immersive biliterate and trilingual education, integrating Chinese and foreign culture that consist of Languages, Innovation and Technology, Humanities, Sports and Art as content, and uses Inquiry-based Learning, Share Start Strategy, Self-directed Learning, Deep Learning, Innovation-oriented, Practice-based Approach, Experiential Learning and e-learning to form a distinctive T-shaped curriculum at our school. This unique T-shaped curriculum allows students to broaden their knowledge, to have in-depth understanding of each subject and to have the ability to study and explore new knowledge areas. This is to help the students to acquire the ability to have in-depth learning, cultivating their life-long learning journey.
Q：What is the medium of instruction? Will the school adopt traditional or simplified characters in Chinese writing?
A：Both primary and secondary divisions are using English mainly as the medium of instruction. In primary division, Chinese Language is taught in Putonghua, supplemented by Cantonese, General Studies is taught in Cantonese and English. The school also offers elective courses to allow students to explore different languages and cultures, allowing students to grow up in a multicultural environment. The campus provides an excellent language learning environment, organises different types of language learning activities, improves students' communication skills, enhances language skills, and builds self-confidence. Chinese writing is mainly based on traditional characters, but students will learn simplified characters to supplement their learning.
Q：What are the teachers’ qualifications?
A：Our school has Hong Kong teachers, Mainland teachers and English Native-speaking teachers to teach various subjects. All teachers have a bachelor’s degree or above from well-known universities in Hong Kong, Mainland and foreign countries. All are top-tier educators with excellent teaching qualifications.
Q：Does the school use learning materials from the Hong Kong curriculum? How can I purchase the learning materials?
A：Our school uses the Hong Kong curriculum materials approved by the Hong Kong Education Bureau, supplemented by the mainland and foreign materials. The learning materials can be purchased through the school or by the parents themselves.
Q：Will my child apply for the HKDSE as a self-study student or as a Hong Kong equivalent school student? Where will the examination take place?
A：The school will discuss the arrangements with relevant departments, our purpose is to treat our students the same as Hong Kong students. The specific arrangements will be announced in due course.
Q：What are the details of the cooperation between the school and HKUST (Guangzhou)?
A：Minxin School is adjacent to HKUST (Guangzhou), both are key construction projects of the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Comprehensive Cooperation Demonstration Zone" in Nansha, Guangzhou, and will play an important leading role in the educational development in the Greater Bay Area. To fully utilise the resources of both parties, we will establish a partnership to share resources, cooperate in cultivating talents, and jointly promote scientific and technological innovation. Professors and postgraduate students of HKUST (Guangzhou) will conduct keynote speeches and offer professional instruction to Minxin School, to let our students explore different fields of study, such as Artificial Intelligence, Financial Technology, Biotechnology, Internet of Things, Autonomous Vehicle technology, Robotics, Advanced Materials, Intelligent Manufacturing, Microelectronics and etc. Through the establishment of YSS (Young Scientist Scheme) and YES (Young Entrepreneur Scheme) programs with HKUST (Guangzhou), the school provides students with the opportunity to experience college campus life and participate in workshops on related topics, also to enhance students' interest in innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship. HKUST (Guangzhou) will support STEAM Fairs, student exchange activities, workshops, lectures, innovation and technology competitions and staff training, organised by Minxin School. We plan to invite schools from Hong Kong, Macau and other cities in the Greater Bay Area to participate in these activities. HKUST (Guangzhou) will accept and offer credits to outstanding students from Minxin School for elective courses at the university. Based on policy and admission standards, the university will offer admission for up to 10 students from Minxin school each year through the Principal's Recommendation Program. Minxin School will give admission priority to the children of the staff of HKUST (Guangzhou) and provide assistance and support for the promotion of the university's recruitment of undergraduates.
Further Study Path
Q：What are the opportunities for further study?
A：After completing the HKDSE, students can apply to the Mainland, Hong Kong or overseas universities through Hong Kong JUPAS or other admission scheme. To provide students with multiple opportunities for further studies, in addition to the HKDSE course and the UK GCE (AS & AL) accredited courses, the school will consider offering IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) at the senior secondary level in the future. After completing the international course, students may also apply to the Hong Kong universities through Non-JUPAS with their results of the international public examination.
Q：Can a student transfer back to a Hong Kong school?
A：One of the great features of Minxin School is that we use the Hong Kong curriculum which can be seamlessly connected back to the curriculum of Hong Kong schools. This makes it easy for parents returning to work in Hong Kong and transitioning their child back to a Hong Kong school. With the recommendation from the school and at the discretion of schools in Hong Kong, some Minxin students could be directly transferred to leading schools, such as St. Paul’s Convent School and St. Paul’s College.

Q：Are there any other miscellaneous fees in addition to the school fees, boarding fee and catering fee?
A：In addition to the school fees, boarding fee and catering fee, parents are responsible for the school uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, school bus (if applicable, for G1 to G6 students), co-curricular activities led by outsourced tutors or coaches, local or overseas study tours (if applicable), public examination registration, subscription to newspapers and magazines (if applicable), class membership, individual class activities (if applicable), etc. Details will be announced before the start of the academic year in September or when enrolling in specific activities.
Catering and School Bus Service
Q：What are the catering arrangements?
A：A professional catering company will run a student canteen on campus which includes Chinese and Western restaurants. Lunch will be provided for all students; whereas boarding students will be served 3 meals daily.
Q：Is there any school bus service provided?
A：Minxin School will arrange school bus routes with reference to students’ distribution. Parents will be informed in due course.
Q：What are the admission requirements?
A：Minxin School is now inviting applications for 2022/23 G1 to G10 admissions (academic year commences at September 2022). Eligible applicants must be of Hong Kong identity or of other non-Mainland Chinese identities.
Q：When will the interview take place? What is the content of the interview? Is there a written test? When will the admission result be released?
A：Applicants will be invited to an interview once the application has been successfully submitted. All applicants will be invited for an interview which will be held from March to May in the first year. The primary division interview includes academic, personal, family, daily life and creativity, etc.; whereas the secondary division interview includes academic, language, interpersonal, aspiration and problem-solving, etc. Parents are also required to join the interview process. Due to the epidemic and online learning in recent years, there will be no written test this year. Successful candidates will be notified to proceed with the school registration by the end of May this year.

A：Yes, various clubs, associations and co-curricular activities - including Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Gifted Programmes, Remedial Classes and other special interest classes may be offered. Note that some classes may incur a charge. Most activities will be offered to students in the afternoon, twice a week with one hour each. In addition, the school will organise local and overseas study tours, allowing students to broaden their horizons, and nurture the next generation with roots in Hong Kong, a heart for China and a global outlook.

A：The school is currently under construction and progressing on schedule. It is expected that school visits can be arranged in August of this year.
