Founded to meet the education needs of Hong Kong and other non-Mainland Chinese children, Minxin Hong Kong School (Guangzhou Nansha) is a non-profit Grade 1 to Grade 12 school that follows the Hong Kong education system. Minxin promotes Hong Kong’s education philosophies and outstanding education foundation. We provide high quality education to the children of Hong Kong families and those who are not of Mainland Chinese identities. We aim to be known as a leading school which nurtures future generations that shape and contribute to the wider society and the country.
Minxin adopts the ‘through-train’ education model and uses English as the main medium of instruction. The through-train model ensures continuity from the primary division to the secondary division. Teachers of the two divisions work collaboratively to plan the curriculum and teaching and learning activities. The close connection ensures students enjoy a comprehensive and uninterrupted learning experience. It also enhances smooth transition from primary to secondary, empowering the school to develop and achieve personalised learning impacts.
A key characteristic of the Minxin education is using the Hong Kong curriculum as the foundation. This means seamless transition from and to schools in Hong Kong, in the case of family relocation. With the recommendation from the school and at the discretion of schools in Hong Kong, some Minxin students could be directly transferred to leading schools, such as St. Paul’s Convent School and St. Paul’s College. In addition, Minxin’s primary division uses the curricula of prestigious primary schools in Hong Kong as the framework. This ensures a diversified learning experience as we promote students’ creative thinking and develop a strong academic foundation. In the secondary division, Minxin uses the curriculum of St. Paul’s Convent School as the blueprint. Grade 7 and Grade 8 will follow both the Hong Kong and school-based curricula. In Grade 9 and Grade 10, IGCSE will be introduced alongside the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). In Grade 11 and Grade 12, HKDSE will continue and GCE (AS & AL) courses will also be offered.
In order to enhance our students’ university application successes including overseas, Minxin offers diversified pathways. In addition to HKDSE and GCE (AS & AL), Minxin is planning to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the future. Students may apply the universities in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas after they have finished our DSE and other international courses.
Led personally by the Principal and Vice-principal, the Minxin higher education team has rich and diversified university counselling experience. Focusing on the individual student, university counsellors help them find their most ideal university options. Be it an academic course in Hong Kong, China or overseas, or a specialised course such as drama and performance arts, Minxin university counsellors will guide the students to reach their dream university.
Minxin puts heavy emphasis on character building and values education, developing our students positive values about themselves and the world. We have established the school-based ‘Minxin’ curriculum, which aims to empower students to be mature members of the family, school, community, country and the world. Building upon the outstanding attributes ‘with roots in Hong Kong, a heart for China and a global outlook’, Minxin students will live beautiful and fulfilling lives.
